Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the United States. She has worked as media critic since. She created Feminist Frequency which is a website with videos and guest posts discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has won prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that examines female representations in narratives from popular culture. As well as working to highlight the problems surrounding sexual harassment and attacks on women, as well as other minorities, she is determined to break the stereotypes in the popular culture. Sarkeesian, who has the degree of Master's in Social and Political Thought at York University, is a popular public speaking. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. At a young age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. As a student, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the gender-based representation in video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it was a boost to her determination to be a feminist media critic. Her notable contributions to the field of feminist have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit that explores the representations of women within pop culture stories.
